What is a chrome Bearbrick?

A figure finished with a reflective metallic plating instead of conventional paint. The surface behaves like a mirror, so the figure picks up the colours of whatever is around it rather than presenting one fixed colour.

The underlying figure is unchanged — the same nine parts and eight points of articulation as any standard BE@RBRICK. Only the surface treatment differs, which is exactly why the effect is so pronounced: a familiar silhouette in an unfamiliar material.

Why does Medicom use chrome for special releases?

Because the finish signals significance without changing the design. It lets Medicom revisit an existing figure — an original silhouette, a well-known character — and make it new without altering the artwork.

The 20th Anniversary 1st Model Chrome 1000% is the clearest case: the 2001 original reissued in a finish that did not exist for it at launch. Do chrome Bearbricks damage easily?

How should you display a chrome Bearbrick?

Under even, indirect light, and behind glass if you can. A mirror finish reflects its surroundings, so what sits opposite the figure matters as much as the figure itself.

Direct spotlighting tends to blow out the surface into a single bright patch and loses the detail. Diffuse light from more than one direction reads better. For a 1000% chrome figure, floor or plinth placement with clear space around it works better than a crowded shelf, because the reflections need somewhere to go.
